A BRAIN CHANGER

Welcome!

Boston Neurofeedback is a safe, non-invasive approach designed to help the brain develop healthier patterns of activity. Through a gradual process of training and reinforcing desired brainwave patterns, neurofeedback helps the brain reorganize its activity and move toward more balanced, optimal functioning.

Clinical Background and Experience

I am a clinical psychologist emerita with over 30 years of professional expertise and clinical experience. I completed my doctoral training at Boston University, and became an assistant professor in counseling psychology at BU. My pre-doctoral training included McLean Hospital, a part of Harvard Medical School, and community mental health clinics. Seeking varied experiences, I received post-doctoral training at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in the Department of Family and Forensic Psychiatry. With that credential, my work included advising the courts in child custody evaluations and special needs options for juveniles.

Later, curiousity and interest led (me) to several years of training in electroencephalogram (EEG) biofeedback, a non-invasive method used to shift brain waves into more normalized patterns. This technique was developed at UCLA, Berkeley and Stanford Universities. It was later used by NASA to help astronauts with sleep, anxiety and focus before space launches. EEG biofeedback is also effective in training ADD, depression, PTSD, learning disorders, headaches, combination of these, and many other difficulties. Studies have shown that the effects of this treatment are sustained over time with little or no medication over time.

Interested patients come to the office for a complimentary session with an explanation of the biofeedback process and a short relaxation training. Then the process begins with a detailed clinical interview which includes family history, medical and educational history. If a patient has sustained a brain injury or has a complicated mental or physiological history, a qEEG (quantitative electroencephalogram) can be administered by another clinician in our office to determine an exact diagnosis and intervention to treat the difficulty. The raw data will then be sent to a neurologist or a specialized diagnostic laboratory and shared in simple language. Protocols are developed and changed as the client moves through treatment and always shared.

TESTIMONIALS

As a young boy, my grandson was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress

Disorder.  He was hospitalized at least twice a year from the age of six until  he was

at least eleven years old. He was placed in private schools because he was unable to

function in a public school.  After a severe bout of depression and another hospitalization,

he was put on lithium.  This caused kidney failure, thyroid and iiver shutdown.  At that

point, I had had it with meds.

After searching on the computer, I came across Boston Neurofeedback.  Dr. Myer

and David Myer did a brain mapping, and the question about his bipolar diagnosis

began.   Dr. Myer also noticed something about his sleep pattern and suggested a sleep

study for Pediatric Obstructive Sleep Disorder.  Sleep apnea in children can cause

mood swings.   My 300 pound grandson DID have sleep apnea.  Later,  it was

determined that he had problems with his adenoids and one enlarged tonsil.  That was his

so-called “bipolar.”

Today, my grandson is medication free and has lost all of his excess weight.  He has had

no hospitalizations since he has been off his meds.  In fact, there is no bipolar!  If it were

not for Dr. Myer and David, he would have had a disastrous life.  Instead, he is a happy, normal kid.

I brought my 11-year-old son to Boston Neurofeedback with a diagnosis of ADHD

and dyslexia.  After a course of medication that did not go well, I was committed

to trying a non-drug option.  I had also heard about BNFB through friends whose

children with ADHD had success with BNFB.  Within a month of being treated at

BNFB, I noticed several positive changes in my son’s behavior.  By the time he

finished up the treatment, he had truly gained a much better ability to control his

behavior and exercise restraint in situations that required careful judgment.  In

school, he has been able to handle much more responsibility and independence,

and his teachers and others who interact with him in the classroom have noticed

a big improvement.  He also seemed to be much more calm and relaxed and in

general, he is better able to communicate his feelings and experiences which has

made a big difference in his personal well-being and happiness.  Our whole family

is grateful for what BNFB has done for our son.  Best, Lisa

I did not want to disappear after the remarkable treatment you have provided. When

I compare my present energy and outlook to when I first came to see you, I am over-

whelmed by the positive changes in spite of a debilitating accident. My medications

for depression are down by half, and my mood and energy are up where a human

beings’ ought to be! At 87 I am launching a new program to help people realize

more of their creative potential. It has a way to go, but it promises to be the best

thing I have ever done. I am forever grateful to you, Anita, for your knowledge and

skill in deciding how to wire me up. With warmest wishes, George

I want to formally thank you for the assistance you have given to a number of my clients,

including the Boston public school teachers. The use of neurofeedback techniques,

based upon their own statements to me and their clinicians, significantly improved

their psychological well being and enabled them to overcome their depressions. In

addition, the EEG imaging was a valuable tool which enabled their treating medical providers to graphically represent to their employers the anxiety and depression

diagnosed by their medical prodivers.

Thank you again, and I will not hesitate to recommend and to urge the use of neurofeedback techniques to assist my clients where appropriate.

Vey truly yours, Paul, Attorney at Law.
